What does a shepherd do?
He with the rest of the team primarily minister with the goal of growing in Christian maturity those who have identified with the flock in partnership and submission. Of course this does not mean they do not have a responsibility to invite lost sheep into the fold of God through the good news of the Good Shepherd, but there is a focus on the flock that among them.
This shepherding is through the serving of the Word and prayer: to their families, to individuals, to small groups, or larger groups. Because the Chief Shepherds feeds His flock through His Word, under-shepherds serve out the Word and pray for its effect in the flock so that they grow healthy and reproduce and lost sheep are found and come into the fold and it multiplies.
Christ in you, the hope of glory: Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily. Col. 1:27-29
