Matthew 11:29

When the crowd walks by, what do you see? An event, or people? In Matthew 9, Jesus looks at the multitudes and is "moved with compassion." He sees people who are weary and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd. Behind the busy faces in our own towns are tired parents, lonely kids and neighbors carrying burdens alone. Jesus sees every one of them. He calls us to pray for laborers, and to become the answer to that prayer. The harvest is plentiful. Our prayer is simple: Jesus, give me your eyes. Genesis 29:1-30-24

Jacob is running from the brother he cheated, sleeping on a rock, and that is where God meets him. In Genesis 28:10–22, heaven opens over a man who wasn't looking for God, and the Lord makes a promise: "I am with you and will keep you wherever you go." Jacob wakes up and says, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it." God's presence doesn't wait for you to be ready because in Jesus, the stairway between heaven and earth has come down to you. Genesis 28:10-22

If you want to know what a family is really like, wait until there's an inheritance to divide. In Genesis 26:34–28:9, everyone in Isaac's house schemes to control where the blessing lands, and it lands exactly where God said it would. Our plans don't carry God's promise; God's promise carries us. In Christ, your inheritance rests on a promise God won't take back, not on your record or your family's.
